Explore the possibilities of etching on silver and copper. This one day workshop aims to teach you a variety of methods to achieve and etched surface into metal, from low-tech drawing and resists to photo etching using heat transfer paper. You will leave the course with a variety of samples to take away with you which can be used to create jewellery or metalwork with intricately textured surfaces.

This technique is ideal for achieving an unusual texture and level of detail to metal, you can etch almost anything and you will have the opportunity to send any photos, letters or special images to your tutor ahead of the class in preparation to be etched on the day. Any image you choose to use will need to be in black and white and have a high contrast.

We will use acid and salt solutions to erode the metal and you will get a feel for how shallow or deep you choose to etch your design. After learning the varied methods to create an etched piece of metal you will have the afternoon to work on your chosen piece or pieces.
